I started working at NewsTalk 1530 KFBK am when I was 14 years old, a sophomore at Sacramento Country Day School. A lot of people ask me, "How did you get your job? As an intern?" Nope! I was hired at 14 to do work on a Sunday morning show at 6am called, "Assets & Aging' with Bob Scrivano. After a little time I got some more hours on Sunday & then Saturdays working on several talk shows. These weekend shows were all about money, retirement, real estate & gardening.
By the end of high school I was working a lot at KFBK, helping out in the newsroom, answering phones, learning as much as I could about the news and radio. In my early 20's while I was in college I started working on the Mark Williams show: a weekly night political & local talk show which aired on KFBK from 7-10pm. I worked on that show for a few years with Mark before he was let go. We had some interesting show topics, guests and lots of great callers. After Mark's show, 'Mark Talk', was cancelled I started working on a new show with a new host, 'the Bruce Maiman Show', which aired at the same time: Monday through Friday from 7 until 10pm. This was a great opportunity for me to grow at the radio station. Instead of *just answering the phone and editing and publishing the show's podcast, my boss gave me the opportunity to be the show's, 'producer'.
This was very exciting to me as answering the phones & podcasting was not very challenging & I yearned to do more over the years. Bruce and I made a great team. I helped to come up with informative and interesting show topics, book guests and designed and moderated his website, in addition to: editing the show's podcast and putting callers on the air with Bruce.
